Dry Carpet Cleaning: Methods and Tips

While it is easier and more convenient to hire a carpet cleaning company to remove the dirt and grime in your carpet, dry carpet cleaning is a cheaper and more practical option. You may opt to have the carpet cleaned by yourself without the need for carpet cleaning services that would cost you roughly 400 dollars. There are packages and discounts that come with cleaning services, but most of them may not be applicable to you.

As opposed to steam cleaning, ‘controlled moisture’ is a term that cleaning services use to this method because of the apparent reduction of water use. However, one way or another, the compound used is moist or is applied or sprayed onto the carpet before being worked on by a round buffer. This process is called Bonnet dry carpet cleaning. Although it cuts through the long process of drying the carpet, it still does not ensure that most of the dirt and grime are removed as only the top third surface of the carpet is surely cleaned. Dry foam however, may work similarly to Bonnet, but has a greater chance of cleaning up deeper areas. As with shampooing, dry foam requires scrubbing for a long time but does not require drying, as the foam naturally dries up and disappears. The residues are then removed by a certain vacuum system especially made for this method.

Dry Powder is another method used in dry carpet cleaning. It then works its way through the carpet base, and dissolves the soil and dirt. This makes it easier for the vacuum cleaner to absorb the dirt suspended with the cleaning agent. You can do this by yourself at home. For some of the cleaning services however, they use a small amount of water with an electric brushing machine to lift the dirt suspended by the cleaning agent. This process still maintains the small amount of water used in the dry carpet cleaning process. Drying the carpet would only take roughly 1 to 2 hours, as opposed to steam cleaning.

In choosing the particular method of dry cleaning, ask for some advice from your carpet service provider. If your carpet is quite new, and does not have many stains, you can ask for the kind of carpet cleaning agents to use made especially for the kind of material your carpet is made of. This would avoid premature wearing of your carpet. They can also help you determine whether your carpet already needs their help, and what types of dry carpet cleaning is needed. You can also contact the manufacturer of your carpet and ask for their recommended products. Most of these manufacturers would provide you with customer service hotlines which you can call for advices and cleaning tips. Apart from the initial instructions and manual provided, check for more information on the manufacturer’s website. There is a more advisable cleaning process for carpets used for a number of years. Extra worn out and damaged carpets may require special kinds of cleaning to avoid quick deterioration.
